Narendra Modi has claimed a “historical” victory in the Indian election results 2024. Although the election authorities are still counting votes and full results are expected in the coming hours, Modi is expected to make a speech shortly. It appears that Modi’s party alone won’t win enough votes to govern alone and will rely on NDA allies to form a government. Therefore, it is likely that Narendra Modi will become the Prime Minister of India again.

Modi’s NDA allies, and their expected contribution to the government formation

  • Apna Dal (Sonelal)
  • National People’s Party (NPP)

N. Chandrababu Naidu is an Indian politician who has been the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh state in southeastern India on two separate occasions (1995-2004 and 2014-2019). He is the head of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and has been a prominent figure in Indian politics at the national level. Naidu was born in Naravaripalli, near Tirupati, in Andhra Pradesh, and received a bachelor’s degree in 1972 and a master’s degree in 1975 from Sri Venkateswara University College of Arts in Tirupati. He joined the Indian National Congress during his student days and became the local youth president of the party in 1975. He later became a confidant of Sanjay Gandhi and was elected to the Andhra Pradesh state legislative assembly in 1978. Naidu served as a minister in the state cabinet from 1980 to 1983 and became general secretary of the TDP in 1985. He played a key role in building up the TDP’s organization and became the party’s coordinator when it was out of power from 1989 to 1994. Naidu staged a successful intraparty coup against his father-in-law, N.T. Rama Rao, in 1995 and became the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh. Naidu’s attempts at reform have disillusioned some voters, and the TDP was defeated in the 2004 national and state elections. However, Naidu remained a significant figure in national politics and was reelected to the state assembly in 2009. He served as the leader of the opposition in the state assembly from 2009 to 2014. In 2014, the TDP allied itself with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and won a plurality of seats in the state assembly elections. Naidu was sworn in as the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh for the fourth time. After the party’s poor showing in the 2019 general elections, he stepped down as chief minister of Andhra Pradesh.
